CHARLESTON, W. Va.- Tulane ended their regular season play on a high note, as the Green Wave won their sixth straight Conference USA series with the 5-3, six-inning victory over host Marshall on the heels of Sam Honeck's big two-out knock and Nick Pepitone's arm. The game was paused in the top of seventh due to a heavy rain storm and after a long delay, the game was called as the weather never relented, giving Tulane the C-USA win to improve to 32-23 and 13-11 in conference play.

Tulane jumped on the board first in the rubber match, as Jeremy Schaffer opened the top of the second taking the 2-1 count from Marshall starter Mike Mason over the wall in left-centerfield and the Green Wave were up 1-0.

The Thundering Herd answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Nate Lape went deep. His solo shot evened things back up at one run apiece after two full but Tulane got right back to work in the third with Jared Dyer breaking the tie by taking Mason yard. Dyer's fourth home run of the season gave Tulane the 2-1 advantage and Josh Prince furthered the lead, driving his sixth long ball of year over the left field wall and the Wave enjoyed a 3-1 lead after three innings.

Marshall strung together a couple hits in the bottom of the fourth as Brandon Casamassima and Josh Valle had back to back base knocks. Victor Gomez hit a gap in right-centerfield, scoring Casamassima and it was 3-2 when head coach Rick Jones went to his bullpen, calling on Pepitone. Pepitone inherited runners at the corners and came in to strike out Lape for the first out of the inning.

Pepitone got his ground ball but a throwing error brought in Valle and it was a new ballgame, 3-3 with runners at the corners and just one out. Pepitone did his job again, this time rolling the 6-4-3 double play to end the inning but not before the Herd tied it up again at 3-3 after four complete.

Drew Allain got things going in the top of the fifth when he one-hopped the wall in center for the ground-rule double. Dyer followed with a walk, bringing up Nick Boullosa. Boullosa sacrificed the runners up a base and Prince followed with the walk to load them up. Honeck stepped in with two down and delivered the big two-out hit, a base knock through the left side that scored Allain. Rhett Stafford bobbled the ball in left, allowing Dyer to come around and cross the pay station and Tulane was up 5-3 headed into the bottom of the fifth.

Pepitone threw a perfect sixth inning before the rains came down and the game was called, giving Tulane the victory and the series.

Tulane will get back on the bus on Tuesday, as the club heads to Hattiesburg, Miss. to the Conference USA Tournament, where Tulane has earned the No. 4 seed and will face host team Southern Miss on Wednesday. First pitch of the contest is slated for 7:30PM Central time.
