Recap |  Final Stats

TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones

On the performance of the Tulane bullpen
"They pitched very well. I thought each guy had good stuff. Robby Broach did a good job of getting us out of that inning with no more runs, and then had a real solid second and third innings. Preston Claiborne got into a rhythm, as did Mason Griffin and Nick Pepitone. The guy that was really, really impressive was Josh Zeid as far as his stuff and his command (are concerned). I didn't think Rob Segedin had his best stuff, but pitched really well and had good depth on his breaking ball."

On the offense tallying 14 hits
"We put some good swings on balls and had some guys again have big nights. Anthony had another big night with three hits, and a lot of guys had solid nights to give us 14 hits and get us to 30 wins."

On sweeping the three-game series from Nicholls State
"They're struggling right now. They've got a club that's in transition right. They're working as hard as they can to get this thing turned around and they're going to be better a year from now. Right now, they're a team that's really had tough times. They've got a real good young coach and I think they'll be in the future. But it's a team that is transition."

On the team posting double-digit hits for the fifth straight time
"We swung it well. I thought we had good, quality at-bats. There were a lot of guys with good two-strike swings and two-out RBI. Sam Honeck had a big RBI against a lefty with two strikes, and his sacrifice fly was really good. And then you have a guy like Warren McFadden coming off the bench with two RBI. I thought that was a big hit. I also thought that Segedin crushed that ball to center. I don't know how it didn't get out. He had a good night."

JUNIOR RIGHT-HANDER Mason Griffin

On the pitching performance by the Green Wave
"Today, we kind of went kitchen sink. Coach said from the get-go that everybody was going to get in. We were going to use a lot of pitchers and kind of use this as a tune up for the weekend. I think everybody did a great job, especially Broach coming in with bases loaded and no outs. He was nominated for the "Money Award" tonight, which is basically like the courage award for the night."

JUNIOR RIGHT FIELDER Drew Allain

On the team getting double-digit hits for the fifth straight game
"We've been seeing the ball well lately. The one thing that (associate head) Coach (Mark) Kingston has been preaching the whole year is that we just have to keep going with our approach, and then at the end of the year, things would take care of themselves. I feel that as a team, right now, we're swinging the bat real well."

On getting out of the bases-loaded, nobody out jam in the first
"It was a great job by Robby Broach tonight to get us out of that inning and keep us in the game. We put a few runs right there, and the pitchers did a great job of winning the ballgame."

On the performance of the Tulane bullpen
"Our bullpen has been good for us. A lot of those guys had a chance to get in there and get some work, and that's big for us. Down the last stretch of the season, we're going to need everybody to come through for us and make that pitch when it counts."

NICHOLLS STATE HEAD COACH CHIP DURHAM

Overall thoughts on the game
"The kid struggled at the beginning, but they came out and threw some zeroes up. We did a decent job of swinging the bat. We had nine hits today. There was a situation where we had a chance to make a couple of plays out there, and you don't know what happens. Early in the game, we had a (wild pitch) where the runners moved up. If we block that ball and the runners don't move, and the next play, we get a possible double-play ball to get out of the inning. There was just a bunch of little bitty things that have hurt us all through the year."

His impressions of the Tulane team after playing them three times in 2008
"They've got a great club. I wish them the best of luck, and there's no doubt in my mind that we'll see them in a Regional and they'll compete for a national championship."
