METAIRIE, La. - Tulane (31-10) was held to just six hits on the evening as the University of New Orleans (19-23) posted an 8-4 victory over the Wave on Wednesday.

Despite taking a 2-0 lead in the first, the Green Wave recorded only four hits in the remaining eight innings, while the Privateers bats boomed, bringing the score to 8-2 before the Wave would answer back. A three-run homer by Chris Avans secured a 4-0 UNO lead going into the fifth.

Tulanes final effort at overtaking UNO came in the eighth, as UNOs Brian Justine walked Chad Sutter and Jake Burnham, which was followed by a Mickey McKee single to center. With the bases loaded, Jake Gautreau hit a sacrifice fly allowing one run to score. Jason Sparks drove in the second and final run of the inning on a single to center to finalize the score at 8-2.

Barth Melius (1-1) took his first loss of the season giving up six runs in 5 1/3 innings of work. Melius struck out a season high five batters. Justine improved to 5-2 on the year.

Both Sutter and Burnham went 3-for-1 scoring one run and recording one RBI.
