Matt Groff and the Green Wave cruised past UNC Charlotte, 9-3, Saturday.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane (28-15-1, 13-3-1 C-USA) put up five runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back as they went on to defeat UNC Charlotte (23-10-1, 8-1 C-USA) 9-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Jay Heintz, Steve Shirley, and Matt Groff each contributed to the Wave five run first as the early rally gave Tulane the momentum necessary for the win. On the afternoon Heintz was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.
Tualne's Andy Cannizaro secured the 9-3 Wave win with a two run double into center field in the eighth. Canizaro was 2-for-5 with one run scored.
Through nine innings the 49ers stranded 13 runners on base. UNCC's only runs of the afternoon were recorded on two home runs, one in the eighth and the second in the ninth. Bradley Smith hit a solo home run to begin the rally, followed by a Jason Hutton two run home run in the ninth.
Dan O'Gara (4-3) got the win for Tulane as he went 8 2/3 innings, holding the 49ers scoreless through seven. O'Gara gave up three runs and struck out four.
The losing pitcher was UNCC's Ryan Baker (7-5) who gave up seven runs through 6 2/3 innings of work. He struck out four.
The teams play the final game of the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
