TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones
On the team's overall performance tonight
"It's something you can build on. I think our offense relaxed a little bit. We had 10 hits tonight after having five last night, and we strung some things together. Matt tonight, that wasn't smoke and mirrors. That was dominant stuff."
On evening the series at one win apiece
"We needed to get one to get back in the series. After losing 4-3, we win 7-5. It's a tough, tough league. It's the best it's ever been and it's been very good. You have to be ready to play every day."
On the performance of sophomore southpaw Matt Petiton
"It was just dominant stuff. It wasn't anything with mirrors, it was dominant stuff. To do that against a Houston team that has the kind of numbers it has offensively, that's not going to happen unless you can really spot up all your pitches and that's what he did."
On the team's offensive performance
"We put a crooked number up in the third, and when they tied it, we came back and stretched it a little bit. Both teams played errorless baseball, but Matt Petiton really was the guy who gave us a great lift."
SOPHOMORE SOUTHPAW Matt Petiton
On his performance on the mound
"I was happy just to get this win for us. It was huge. I'm just happy for my teammates right now, but we've got to go back out tomorrow with the same intensity and the same determination to get the game and win the series."
On what was working for him
"My curveball wasn't very good to be honest. My fastball was going for strikes, and throwing strikes was huge for me. My change-up was helping me out, especially on some one-pitch, one-out situations. I'm just happy those were working."
JUNIOR SECOND BASEMAN Anthony Scelfo
On the performance of Matt Petiton
"Petiton was just unbelievable. That was huge. He came in and they didn't do anything. They had no pressure, he threw strikes, let the defense work and he was striking batters out. I tell you one thing, he's the player of the game. That's for sure."
On the Tulane bats tallying 10 hits
"We just kept working. We made better adjustments tonight than we did last night. The first inning, with the way the game started, it looked like it was going to go like it did last night. But it didn't. We made adjustments and we kept working. That was the biggest difference tonight. We all just calmed down, relaxed a little bit and made the adjustments we needed to make."
On the team making adjustments at the plate
"We drove it opposite field. We hit a lot of balls out to the wall tonight, but if you watched it, those guys who hit the ball to the track, over the next few at-bats they came up and hit singles up the middle. It opened things up for them and we all got our swings back tonight."
On tomorrow's series finale
"It's a huge game. We have to win this series. They have the best record in conference, and that's where we want to be. In order to be the best, you have to beat the best. It'll be huge tomorrow."
