LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Green Wave hit four home runs on their way to a 9-1 win over Louisville, completing a three-game C-USA sweep of the Cardinals.
Seven of the nine Tulane runs were scored on the four long balls hit by the Wave. Chad Sutter, Jason Sparks, Jake Gautreau and Matt Groff combined for eight RBI in the game.
Louisville jumped on the board first, putting one run up in the second, which was their first and only lead of the series. Paul Brown (RF) drove the only Cardinal run home.
The Green Wave answered in the third, on Andy Cannizaro sacrifice fly to center. Sutter collected his 13th home run of the season when he drove one deep over the center field wall, putting the Wave up 3-1.
After drawing a lead-off walk in the fourth, Mickey McKee scored as Gautreau homered to right. With two outs in the sixth, Groff hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot to right. Sparks completed the home run total with a two run blast to right in the seventh. Tulane scored its final run of the game in the eighth when Cannizaro hit his second sacrifice of the game, as the Wave defeated Louisville 9-1.
Dan O'Gara picked up his fifth win of the season against no losses, as he threw 7 2/3 innings scattering seven hits and allowing only one earned run.
Tulane faces LSU on Wednesday, April 14 at Zephyr Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
