Recap |  Final Stats

TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones

Thoughts on the game
"When we are good offensively, usually it's well executed action at the plate and on the bases. Today, we had some hit-and-runs, we were patient at the plate and drew some walks, we ran the bases well, and got the safety squeeze down. We played better defensively then we played all week, and I thought Brandon Gomes came back and gave us a lift after they had the rebound inning. A lot of guys would not have been aggressive as he was, and that really helped. And when you have Daniel down in the pen well rested, it's a comfortable thing to know that if you have a lead, you have a good chance. I thought all of those things worked for us."

On if he thought Gomes got stiff while sitting during the Green Wave's five-run third
"He got up and threw. I just thought he got too much of the plate too many times. It might have been because he had to sit, but he still threw in between innings. After that, he was back in command."

On salvaging the series finale against Memphis
"We would have loved to have won the series, but we didn't and had to salvage it today. We were able to do that, so you have to feel good about that part of it."

TULANE STARTER Brandon Gomes

On his performance against Memphis
"I felt really good today. I was a little disappointed about the fourth and letting them get back in it after those five runs. But I was able to come back, the defense played great, and Coach Sutter called a great game as usual."

On allowing three runs in the fourth inning
"I threw in between innings a little bit. I just missed my spots on a couple of pitches and a couple of balls found holes. I just didn't execute as well as I did the rest of the game."

On not allowing a walk in 7.0 strong innings
"That was big. I hate giving free passes. I try to make them put it in play and give us a chance."

On how important it was to win today to sit 6-3 in C-USA play
"I think we're really starting to hit our stride and play well. Next weekend will be a huge series for us at Southern Miss. Hopefully we'll perform well and I think we will."

TULANE SHORTSTOP Cat Everett

On the team's performance against Memphis
"Finally, we got some hits to fall and we stuck with our gameplan. We knew (Scoggins) had walked 15 people in 15 innings, so we went up there and took a lot of pitches and that's what led to the big innings."

On if the shuffle in the batting order and moving back to the leadoff position helped him
"A little bit. I can take a couple more pitches to get on as opposed to driving people in, which is a little more my game."

On salvaging the series finale and ending the week 6-3 in Conference USA play
"To be honest with you, I'm not concerned winning the series or not. It's all about individual wins in conference. That's all that matters in the end. We had to go out to salvage as much as we could today. Obviously, we're not happy about dropping two out of three to anybody, but we did all that we could do today and that was come out with a win."
