Recap |  Box Score

Head Coach R. Jones

Opening Statement
"We battled hard tonight, but just came up short. It was a great game for the fans, tonight. They got to see two very evenly matched teams play a really good game. We weren't able to throw enough strikes early; they took advantage of that and had some good two-out at-bats. We were pitching behind in the count too much and we (issued) three free passes early. I thought we did a good job battling back and (Andrew) Reeves was outstanding. You will see him in our weekend rotation starting next week. Their two guys out of the bullpen were really, really good. We just couldn't get it done."

On difficulties vs. Wall
"He's got a good fastball and he's got a good breaking ball because he stays down in the zone and manages the strike zone. He's got a good pickoff move, so he really limits the running game, too."

On not being able to get the big hit
"Well, (it's hard) when you fall behind like we did early, we came back and from four runs down, but their bullpen was really good. The problem was that we...put ourselves in a position where they were able to score early. Two walks and a hit batsman in the first two innings made a big difference. We walked the leadoff hitter twice, didn't throw a strike to him, and both times he scored."

On early pickoff
"Nobody feels worse about that than Briggs does. He got out too far off (the base) on the bunt attempt and you've got to give credit to their catcher. (Their catcher) did a really good job with the first baseman on that. Briggs is not going to get picked many times in that situation, but you've got to give some credit to their catcher. It was just a real good play on their part. Briggs just got a little bit more momentum going toward second base on the bunt attempt than he wanted too. That one there, you look back and you say at the time you didn't realize it was going to be that big of a play, but that's only one play. We were down 5-1 at the time."
