Jared Berkowitz pitched his second complete game of the season against UAB

James Jurries went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI and Jared Berkowitz struck out 10 in a complete game effort to lead Tulane (23-7, 6-3) to a 9-3 victory over UAB (14-9, 4-4) in a Conference USA game at Turchin Stadium.
The victory was the seventh straight for the Green Wave while UAB lost its third straight.
In the UAB first, Chris Reimers singled and went to third on a throwing error by Tulane right fielder Jason Sparks. David Owen followed one out later with a RBI double to right center for a 1-0 lead. Brian Allem hit a RBI single and Philip Holmes had a RBI double for the Blazers to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Green Wave scored a single run in the bottom of the first when Andy Cannizaro reached on a fielder choice and came around to score on a wild pitch by UAB starter Joe McRae (5-3).
In the Tulane third, Cannizaro walked and scored on a single by Sparks to cut UAB lead to 3-2.
Jurries hit his 13th homer of the season, a two-run shot to left, to give the Wave a 4-3 advantage in the fourth.
Jake Gautreau hit a solo homer with two out in the fifth, his ninth, for Tulane fifth run. In the seventh, Jake Burnham hit a two-run homer, his sixth of the season, to push Tulane's lead to 7-3.
The Wave scored two runs in the eighth on a throwing error by catcher Shawn Harris and a RBI single by Cannizaro.
Berkowitz (7-2) scattered nine hits and did not walk a batter. With the 10 strike outs, Berkowitz recorded a season high. McRae pitched seven innings and struck out eight with eight hits allowed.
Chad Sutter went 2-for-3 scoring one run, while James Jurries went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. With his fourth inning home run, Jurries has 13 on the year, just three shy of the Tulane freshman record.
The teams play the final game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m
