CHARLOTTE, NC - Despite leading UNC Charlotte (8-8, 1-0 CUSA) going into the ninth, the Green Wave (16-6, 0-1 CUSA) dropped a 7-6 decision to the 49ers on Friday night. James Jurries and Jason Sparks both hit home runs in the sixth inning. Brandon Belanger (2-1) got his first loss of the year.

Tulane trailed the 49ers 5-0 until a fifth inning offensive explosion. The Green Wave scored four runs beginning with a lead-off solo home run by Jurries. Later in the inning, Sparks hit a three RBI homer to left center bringing the run count to 4-5.

In the seventh after Jurries reached on a double down the right field line, Matt Groff was walked with two outs on the board. Sutter followed with and RBI single allowing Jurries to score tying the game at five apiece. Groff then scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch by UNCC pitcher Brion Treadway.

The 49ers answered in the bottom of the ninth with a Matt Dryer single RBI, which allowed Jason Hill to score the winning run.

For Tulane, Jurries went 4-for-5 with, one RBI two runs scored, a double and his seventh home run of the year. Sparks went 1-for-3 with a game-high three RBI, and one run scored.

RHP Henry Bonilla started for the Wave, pitched six innings, struck out 11 batters, walked two and gave up four earned runs. In 2 1/3 innings of work, Belanger struck out five walked on and gave up one earned run.

Tulane and UNCC play Saturday at noon in Charlotte. The game is scheduled to be broadcast on 88.3 WRBH, and on the internet.
