NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane (15-5) baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Elon College (5-15) Sunday afternoon with the help of a Jake Gautreau triple in the eigth inning. RHP Brandon Belanger improved to 3-0 on the year, while Jake Burnham hit his fourth home run of the season.
Tulane led the Fightin' Christians until the eighth inning when Whit Bryant (RF) hit an RBI single to center field and tied the game at one run each. In the bottom of the eighth with two outs on the board, Gautreau hit an RBI triple into left field. Chad Sutter scored on the play giving Tulane the 2-1 lead. This was followed by Burnham's two RBI homer over the right field fence, and gave the Green Wave two additional runs.
Jared Robinson pitched 7 2/3 innings before giving up the only Elon run of the game in the eighth. Robinson had a no-hitter going until the seventh inning. At one point in the game, Robinson retired 13 batters in a row. Robinson gave up two hits, one run and struck out four. Belanger relieved Robinson in the eighth inning and went on to finish the game. He gave up one hit and struck out one batter.
Gautreau went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Burnham went 1-for-3 with a game-high two RBI.
Tulane's next game is scheduled for Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m. The Green Wave plays cross-town rival UNO at Zephyr Field. The game is to be broadcast on FM 88.3 WRBH.
