On the performance of Shooter Hunt
"I didn't think that Shooter had the same command that he had last week. I think that shows you what kind of competitor he is. He was able to keep his pitch count down because he competed.
Other keys to the game
"We played well defensively, and we swung the bats better tonight than the stats show. We hit three or four balls really hard. Sam hit two that he really barreled up, and Dyer crushed that one to third base, and we hit a couple of balls when the air got heavy there late. I thought Warren McFadden had another good night, and I thought Jared Dyer coming off that concussion really caught well and swung it well. He didn't have much to show for it, but he sure had a good night."
On what he felt the team needed to work on for the rest of the weekend
"We had a couple of opportunities there where we left runners on with less than two outs, and that's something we need to cash in on if we are going to be the type of club we want to be. That will be a point of emphasis tomorrow."

On his performance on the mound
"I really didn't feel that I had my best stuff tonight. There are only so many days where everything is flowing for you. You have to battle through those other days. The defense did great tonight behind me, and that's all I can ask for."
On if he knew early on that he didn't have his best
"There are just those days where you can't get loose or everything is too loose. Today, not everything was working in the bullpen. I just had to settle myself down. Jared really did a good job of helping me out. He helped me calm down and settle down, and in the second half of the game, I was able to settle in."
On if he was able to settle down after getting the 3-0 lead
"Leads definitely help you out as a pitcher. I think it makes everyone else relax out there, hang zeros on the board, and get us back in (the dugout) every inning."

Overall thoughts on the game
"It was obviously a pitcher's duel. Shooter is a projected high draft pick for a reason. He is an outstanding college pitcher and we had to try and scratch any runs across as we could. He just pitched a great ballgame. Michael Takashima is a senior leader for us. He's been around the block for us and he pitched a solid game like we knew he could."
On where his team is at this point of the season
"I think by this point, we're pretty acclimated to being outdoors. We have some young guys who we still want to find out about. But the team we ran out there today was a veteran club. We just ran into a buzz saw."
