TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones
Overall thoughts on the game
"We got out-played in all phases. Their starting pitching was really good, they played very well defensively, they had quality at-bats, they put pressure on us and they ran the bases very well. They basically dominated us today. We had some chances. I was excited when we got back in the game there at 6-3, but after that, we didn't do much. I thought we were careless with the ball today. It was a very disappointing day where we really got schooled."
On the pitching performance by Aaron Loup, Nick Pepitone and Trey Martin
"They did a real good job of that. Aaron had a tough time finding the plate, but I thought Nick Pepitone and Trey Martin gave us a great chance to win the ballgame. Both of those guys pitched so well. We just didn't take advantage. We scored three in the fourth, but we had five more innings there where we didn't do anything. I was disappointed with our offense again today and I'm disappointed that we didn't scrap a little harder. I thought we had some chances and it's really disappointing to waste the kind of performance that both Pepitone and Trey had."
On the overall performance of the UC Irvine team
"You have to give credit. They're 9-1 for a reason. They're an outstanding club. For us to be where we want to be, we have to be better in games like today. You're not going to get a shutout all the time. You're not going to get that kind of pitching performance. You have to win games in different ways. Today, we had to be mor eoffensive and we weren't. And we had to be better defensively and we weren't."
