Recap |  Final Stats

TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones

Thoughts on the game
"I thought UNC-Asheville played as well as they could possibly play. They out-hit us, I thought they pitched well, and they used some of their front-line guys. They also made great two-strike adjustments at the plate. But we didn't play as well as we wanted to but we played well enough to win. Some of the key things for us were a great relief performance by Aaron Loup, Daniel gave us a good lift in the ninth."

On the progression of events in the ninth
Anthony Scelfo did what a leadoff hitter should do and got on base with a walk. Cat Everett's effort on the hit and run was excellent, Brad Emaus put a good swing on it and Anthony Scelfo's slide at the plate was real, real key. The slide is what made him safe. That's something we work on and it's something he executed very well."

On if it is comforting to win despite not playing as well as expected
"You're always happy to get the win, but certainly we're going to have to do some things more consistently offensively. We've got to do a better job of holding runners. You also can't make two errors a game and expect to be very successful because this is a club that built on pitching and defense."

UNC-ASHEVILLE HEAD COACH WILLIE STEWART

Thoughts on the five-game trip to Louisiana
"Our kids played hard today. We've had some rough stretches and the last couple of games. We haven't played very good baseball. Tonight, though, we came out and played very good baseball and competed our tails off. We just came up short again. We have to execute the little things here and there. We have to get our bunts down. We have to have some clutch hits to fall down with runners in scoring position. That's what we're not getting right now. We've got to continue to plug away at it. But as far as the way our guys played, I couldn't be more happy with the effort and the competitiveness that we had today."

On his feelings toward the improvement his team showed Tuesday against Tulane
"I've very proud of our team today. The way we swung the bats was very much improved over the past two or three days. We are starting to do some things and if we continue to some of them in the right way, we're going to come around as a team and we're going to be fine."
