Baseball Posts 11-4 Win over No. 17 Arizona

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane baseball team posted an 11-4 victory over No. 17 Arizona (15-8) and improved to 11-4 on the season. LHP Jared Berkowitz pitched his first complete game of the year and improved his record to 2-2.

Berkowitz gave up 12 hits, four runs, walked one and struck out a season-high seven batters, bringing his ERA to 3.41 on the year.

The Green Wave jumped out to a lead in the first inning and never looked back. Jason Sparks, Jake Burnham and Brandon Belanger went deep for the Wave each hitting home runs. Through the sixth, the Wildcats scored two runs and doubled that in the ninth inning with a last attempt at catching Tulane.

Burnham (LF) led the Wave going 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and his third home run of the season. Sparks (RF/CF), who hit his second homer of the year, went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double. Belanger (DH) had a game-high three RBI, and his first home run as a Green Wave.

For Arizona, Josh France (1B) hit his first home run of the year, a solo in the fifth, and went 1-for-3. Brian Pemble (0-1) picked up his first loss of the season, giving up four runs, walking one and striking out zero.

The third and final game between the two schools at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Turchin Stadium.
