Baseball Squad Rallies, Defeats No. 17 Arizona, 9-5

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane (10-4) baseball team had a four-run sixth inning to come from behind and defeat the No. 17 Arizona (15-7) 9-5. RHP Dan O'Gara (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season.

Arizona jumped on the board early with a Shelly Duncan (RF) three RBI home run in the first inning. Ernie Durazo (1B) added one more run to Arizonas lead with a solo homer in the second giving the Wildcats a 4-0 advantage.

The Green Wave chipped away at the Wildcats lead scoring one run in both the third and fourth innings, but in the sixth Tulane took the lead. Mickey McKee (1B) hit his second double of the game to give the Green Wave its first run of the inning. Jake Gautreau (3B) then scored on a Josh Pearce balk, McKee then tied the game at five apiece on a throwing error by Keoni DeRenne (SS). James Jurries (2B) hit an RBI infield single sending McKee home a giving Tulane a 6-5 lead.

Tulane added insurance runs in the seventh, beginning with a Jake Burnham (LF) RBI double. Two more runs were scored on a passed ball and a wild pitch to finalize the Tulane victory.

Burnham and Mckee went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Sutter went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

OGara, who replaced starting pitcher Jared Robinson, pitched 3 1/3 innings gave two hits, zero runs and struck out three. Brandon Belanger closed the game, striking out one of the three batters he faced.

Arizona's Josh Pearce (3-1) picked up his first loss of the season. He pitched six innings for the Wildcats, giving up five runs, six hits and struck out five.

Tulane and Arizona square off Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at Turchin Stadium.
