TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones
Thoughts on the game
"I was real pleased with the way Sean Morgan threw coming off that bout with the flu. He gave us a tremendous effort today and a gutsy effort. I was disappointed with our base-running mistakes early. We cannot afford to do that. We have to learn from that and I believe we will."
On the way the team got key hits in the middle and latter portion of the game
"It was good to see us string together some good at-bats there in the middle innings. Warren McFadden had a big double there, and that was one that really helped us."
On the ninth inning
"We (used) some guys out of the bullpen who hadn't had a whole lot of opportunities (so far in 2007). Things didn't work out the way we wanted them to. You don't envision Daniel Latham getting a save when you're up 9-1 in the ninth. The concerning part there is we had a bullpen that was going to be rested for tomorrow and now, we're not as rested as we want to be.
On what the ninth inning means for tomorrow's game
"We did not want to use Loup, Claiborne or Daniel, but didn't have a choice. Other guys are going to have to step up and pick up the slack tomorrow. We've had some freshman who have really shown that they can and will, so tomorrow we'll have to count on them behind Shooter."
On his team's offensive performance
"Mac had a good day. That was encouraging today. We had a lot of base runners, and we started getting some quality at-bats with guys on. And we got in their bullpen a little."
On drawing a season-high 14 walks
"We got in their bullpen and they had trouble throwing strikes. We did a good job of being disciplined with that."
