Head Coach R. Jones

Opening Statement
"We got off to a good lead," said Tulane head coach Rick Jones, "they came back and tied it. We took (the lead) back and they tied it. (We) are playing a good club and they are scrapping. Fortunately we had some really good at bats that produced runs. We did make a couple of outs on the base paths that we didn't need to make and we'll address that. I thought we had a good approach at the plate most of the night and we played really well defensively. We got really good pitching performances from (Andrew) Garner and (D.J.) Ponder."

Senior J. Schaffer

On the offense helping out the starting pitching
"Our starting pitching - I don't think anybody on our team is really worried about that. We know what those guys have and what they are going to bring to the table for the whole season and we just know they are going to be there. With the bats, it was another really good night. It's nice to see our one through nine (hitters) with a steady confidence and steady hard-hit balls throughout the whole game. We're feeling good as a team right now and we just have to put this game past us, come out tomorrow ready to have another good day."

On the offense clicking this season
"We've had the bats a while now, I don't know if it's because we've had them longer or if we're doing different things right. I think it's because we're doing different things as a club. You can just see (the change) in our approaches - we're not a one dimensional team. It's not like we can only go the other way or only hit the ball pull-side. We're hitting fastball, change-up, whatever it is. I just think guys' approaches are really good. We're sticking with the plan. Coach Gautreau and coach Jurries are doing a good job of working with guys, getting them ready to play and we've been swinging the bats well lately."

On another big Friday night win
"It's huge - Alabama coming in here Friday night. We had a huge, great crowd tonight - a lot of energy in the stadium and it was a just a really big statement win for us, but we've got to come out tomorrow for it to mean something and win the series."

Junior B. Middleton

On the defense playing well
"We made all the routine plays. We made some good plays, too. (Brandon) Boudreaux had a good night in left (field), and Nick Schneeberger made a big catch in right (field). We played solid defense, which we needed to win a close game like that, 9-7."

On (D.J.) Ponder's solid start to the season
"It's exciting. That's the best I've seen (Ponder) throw and I've played with him my whole life to be honest with you. He's pounding the (strike) zone, he's going in and out and he's changing speeds. He's throwing breakers for strikes, which we need coming out of the bullpen, but he's throwing really well."

On getting a big win on Friday night
"This is a huge series for us to be facing a SEC opponent like (Alabama). They are a good ball club, they really are. They swing the bats well and they have good pitching. This is a big win for us."
