NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Freshman Michael Aubrey and sophomore James Burgess were responsible for eight of Tulane's (2-0) 12 runs, driving in four runs each, in the Green Wave's 12-0 victory over Sam Houston State (0-2) on Saturday afternoon.
The Green Wave put runs on the board in every inning but two and scored three in fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Wave recorded 15 hits as a team.
Aubrey put Tulane's first run of the afternoon on the board with a solo home run over the right field fence, hit first hit as a Green Wave.
In the fourth inning, Burgess hit a two run double and scored on an Aaron Feldman single into center. Burgess hit his second two RBI double in the fifth inning. On the day, he was 2-for-5.
With one out in the sixth inning Andy Cannizaro reached on a throwing error by Bearkat shortstop Carroll Kelly and posted his first two stolen bases of the season and advanced to third. Anthony Giarratano sent Cannizaro home with his first hit as a Green Wave. Jake Gatutreau hit a towering two run home run in to right field and gave Tulane a 10-0 lead.
The Green Wave posted two runs in the eighth on an Aubrey double down the right field line.
Aubrey was 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs and one sacrifice fly. Gautreau and Matt Groff were 3-for-4 on the afternoon.
RHP Barth Melius (1-0) got the win for Tulane. He pitched five scoreless innings, struck out seven and walked one. Tulane pitching held the Bearkats to six hits.
Sam Houston's Jeff Vanlandingham (0-1) got the loss. He went 3 1/3 innings gave up four runs all earned and walked one.
