Sean Teague begins his first season as the Tulane pitching coach, but is no stranger to successful staffs and championship baseball.

A four-year coaching veteran at Georgia Southern University, Teague brings a wealth of experience to The Big Easy, as well as a list of impressive credentials which includes nationally-ranked pitching staffs and trips to the NCAA Regionals in three of his four seasons with the Eagles.

During his four seasons in Statesboro, Ga., Teague helped the Eagles to a combined 158-89 record, Southern Conference regular-season titles in 2000 and 2001, and SoCon Tournament Championships in 2000 and 2002. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA postseason each of those years, and Teague was instrumental in the 2000 appearance as GSU had just six pitchers on the roster.

In each of the past three years, Teague's staffs have ranked in the top five nationally in strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings, including an NCAA regular season-leading and Georgia Southern single-season record 591 Ks in 2003, which ranked third at the conclusion of the College World Series. Teague's staffs posted four of the top six single-season strikeout marks in school history, including the top three totals. Under Teague's tutelage, Brett Lewis set school career marks in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts while Jason Cadenhead became GSU's career leader in appearances.

Under Teague's direction, three pitchers went on to earn All-SoCon honors, including David Ray, who was also named 2000 SoCon Pitcher of the Year, and John Carroll, a 2003 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American. Over the past two seasons, five of Teague's hurlers were drafted by Major League franchises, including 2003 third-round selection Dennis Dove.

As a player at LSU, Teague was a member of the Tigers' 1993 National Championship club and lettered for the 1994 team, which made a return trip to the College World Series.

Following a stint in the private sector, Teague began his coaching career at his high school alma mater in 1996 where he spent one season as an assistant at Christian Life Academy, helping the team go 29-5 and finish as the state's AA runner-up.

Teague broke into the collegiate ranks in August 1998 when he joined the University of Georgia staff for a year as a graduate assistant before moving on to Georgia Southern staff one year later.

A native of Baton Rouge, Teague completed his bachelor of arts in advertising from LSU in 1995 and has been a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association since 2001. He is married to the former Paige Putnam of Dalton, Ga., and the couple resides in River Ridge.
