CAREER NOTES: Two-time first-team All-Conference USA selection...originally enrolled as a pitcher/catcher at the University of Virginia before transferring to Tulane in the summer of 2006...in two seasons with the Green Wave, posted a combined 15-10 record, a 2.65 ERA and a .204 opponent batting average...started 31 of the 32 games he appeared in during his Tulane career, during which time he posted a 10.33 strikeout-per-nine-inning average and a 2.67 strikeout-to-walk ratio after fanning 230 batters and walking just 86 in 200.1 innings of work...his .175 opponent batting average in 2008 is a Tulane single-season record, surpassing the former mark of .203 set by Jason Navarro in 1997, and is fifth in strikeout-per-nine-inning average (11.26)...his .204 career opponent batting average also tops Navarro's former school record of .224 (1995-97)...also ranks fifth Tulane career history in K/9 and is seventh in career ERA.
2008: Started all 16 games he appeared in as a junior...named second-team Louisville Slugger All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine, Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and first-team All C-USA after leading the team and the league in opponent batting average (.175), total strikeouts (126), strikeouts looking (48) and innings pitched (100.2)...also named semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award by USA Baseball, The Dick Howser Trophy by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the Brooks Wallace Award by the College Baseball Foundation, and the Roger Clemens Award by the Greater Houston Baseball Association...led the team and is tied for the C-USA mark in wins (nine) while pacing the club and finished second in the conference with a 2.68 ERA...ranks fifth in the NCAA in hits allowed per nine innings (5.54) and total strikeouts, 12th in strikeouts per nine inning (11.26), 26th in wins and 44th in ERA...tallied eight or more strikeouts on 10 occasions, including four double-digit K totals and a season-high 12 strikeouts against Southern Miss (4/18) and at Memphis (4/25)...held opponents to three or fewer hits nine times, including a one-hit, no-walk, 11-strikeout performance in 7.0 innings against UC Irvine (3/7)...did not allow an earned run on four occasions and held opponents to one earned run two other times...named C-USA Pitcher of the Week three times (3/10, 3/17, 5/12), Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week twice (4/21, 5/12) and CollegeBaseballInsider.com Central Region Pitcher of the Week once (3/10).
2007: Started 16 of the 17 games he appeared in as a sophomore...named first-team All-Conference USA and second-team All-Louisiana after leading the team in ERA (2.62) and opponent batting average (.232) while ranking second on the staff in strikeouts (104) and innings pitched (99.2), and third in wins (tied with six)...finished third in C-USA in ERA, total strikeouts, strikeouts looking (35) and opponent batting average, fourth in innings pitched and strikeouts looking (tied with 30)...ranked 44th nationally in strikeouts, 57th in ERA and 58th in strikeouts per nine innings (9.39)...had a 3.47 strikeout-to-walk ratio with just 30 bases on balls...tallied seven or more strikeouts eight times, including nine strikeouts against East Carolina in the regular season (3/31) and C-USA Tournament (5/23), 10 Ks in 5.2 innings against North Florida (2/18) and a career-best 13 with no walks in 7.1 innings at UCF (4/28)...longest outing of the year came at Marshall (3/24) when he fanned seven and allowed just an unearned run in 8.0 frames...also tossed 7.0 shutout innings against Houston (4/21)...off the diamond, was a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Tulane's 3.0 Club.
Prior To Tulane: Pitched freshman season at the University of Virginia...appeared in 17 games, striking out 33 batters in 34.1 innings of work...posted eight multiple-strikeout games, including five contest with four-plus punches...best game of rookie season came against Mount St. Mary's (5/2) when he fanned a career-best six batters in a season-long 6.0-inning start...also started contests against Richmond (4/26) and at Old Dominion (5/16)...did not allow an earned run on nine occasions...posted a 2.2 strikeout-to-walk ration and an 8.65 strikeout-per-nine average...drew three at-bats for the Cavaliers and posted an RBI-single against Maryland-Eastern Shore (5/7).
Summer Ball: Played for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2006 and 2007...in 2006, named No. 9 prospect in the CCBL by Baseball America after leading the league with 54 strikeouts...started six of 11 appearances, tied for team lean in wins (3-0) and finished second in innings pitched (40.0)...in 2007, named No. 11 prospect in the CCBL by Baseball America after ranking third on the team in strikeouts (48) while going 2-2 with a 4.71 ERA...started all eight games he appeared in, walking just 30 in 36.1 innings.
High School: Three-year starter at Ramapo High for coach and father Mickey Hunt...as a senior, named first-team all-state, New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year and Louisville Slugger New Jersey Player of the Year and leading the Green Raiders to the state championship...selected by the Texas Rangers in the 34th round of the 2005 Major League Draft...two-time all-NBIL and all-county selection...listed as the No. 81 prospect in the nation by Baseball America and No. 71 player by TeamOneBaseball.com...No. 16 ranked prospect at Perfect Game/Baseball America World Wood Bat Association Fall Championship and named the No. 23 right-handed pitcher in the country by TeamOneBaseball.com...following junior season, ranked No. 1 prospect at the South Showcase and No. 1 prospect at the SelectFest Showcase...participated in the 2004 East Coast Professional Showcase and 2004 Area Code Games...also lettered twice in basketball where he helped lead Ramapo to the 2005 state title...off the diamond, was a member of National Honor Society.
Personal: Born Steven Daniel Hunt on Aug. 16, 1986 in Westwood, N.J...son of Mickey and Dolores Hunt...has two brothers; T.J. and K.C...nicknamed after Dennis Hopper's character "Shooter" in the movie Hoosiers...majoring in history.
