2007: Played in 19 games as a junior, including three starts in right field...hit .269 (7-for-26) for the year with two RBI and three walks...played in all four games in the Conference USA Tournament, hitting (3-for-11) with a pair of RBI...posted first two career RBI with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single in the C-USA Tourney vs. UAB (5/24)...had single-hit games against Southeastern Louisiana (2/9) and at UNO (3/20) and came off the bench to go 2-for-2 against Memphis (4/6)...posted first career stolen base vs. Wright State (3/2)...played nearly flawless defense, posting a combined 21 putouts and just one error as an outfielder, first baseman and catcher.
2006: Played in 11 games as a sophomore, including a start in left field against Penn State (2/19)...saw action as a corner outfielder and played in four games behind the plate...missed second half of the season after undergoing successful back surgery in mid-April...did not record a hit in five at-bats, but played flawless defense with 11 putouts and one assist.
2005: Played in six games as a redshirt-freshman...served as one of two bullpen catchers and saw live action behind the plate in all six of his appearances...had a perfect fielding percentage with five putouts and no assists...reached via walk vs. UAB (4/1) and scored a run in that game.
2004: Served as bullpen catcher and redshirted his first year with the Green Wave program.
Summer Ball: Played for the Keene Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate League in 2004 and the Saratoga Phillies of the New York Collegiate Baseball League in 2005...with Keene, started 18 of 21 games where he tallied 10 hits, including a double, posted six RBI and stole four bases in five attempts...in Saratoga, led team in batting average (.330) and hits (41) and finished second in doubles (seven), RBI (18), total bases (36) and slugging percentage (.409).
High School: Four-year letterman as an outfielder, pitcher, catcher and shortstop at DeLaSalle High for coach Joey Cabeceiras...a three-time All-District 9-5A and all-metro honoree, named first-team all-state as a junior when he hit .460 with three home runs and 23 RBI...as a senior, hit .425 with three home runs and 25 RBI, and posted a .573 batting average with seven homers and 28 RBI as a sophomore...also lettered four years in football, including an honorable-mention all-district performance as a sophomore when he threw for 1,909 yards and 14 touchdowns...off the diamond, was a member of Gold Honor Roll.
Personal: Born Grayden George Griener on June 8, 1984 in New Orleans, La...son of Gayle and the late David Griener...has five brothers who all played collegiate baseball: Tulane players Kyle and Keith Graffagnini, Todd Graffagnini who played at UL-Monroe and has been a member of the Green Wave broadcast team since 1992, Jon Graffagnini who played at Loyola, and David Griener who also played at Loyola...father, David, played defensive back for the Green Wave football team from 1971-73...majoring in sociology.
