2001: Started all 68 games in which he played as a true freshman, all at second base...earned first-team Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America and honorable-mention Freshman All-America recognition from Collegiate Baseball...named to Conference USA All-Freshman squad after finishing second on the team in assists (164), tied for fourth in hits (93), fifth in runs scored (72) and stolen bases (11), and sixth in batting average (.352)...ranked tied for fifth in C-USA in hits, tied for sixth in runs scored, eighth in assists and 10th in batting average...was even more impressive in the postseason when he hit .474 (28-for-59) with three doubles, a home run and 12 RBI...went 8-for-12 in the NCAA Super Regional vs. LSU (June 1-3)...had 32 multiple-hit games and 12 multiple-RBI contests...hit safely in 53 of 68 games, and ended the year with a 13-game hitting streak during which he hit .482 (27-for-56)...earned C-USA All-Tournament honors after hitting .360 (9-for-25) with three RBI and eight runs scored...earned All-New Orleans Regional honors one weekend later when he hit .500 (6-for-12), including a three-hit performance against Southern (May 25) and a two-hit outing vs. Oklahoma State (May 26)...tallied a career-high five hits vs. LSU in the opening game of the Super Regional (June 1)...posted a personal-best five RBI vs. Georgia State (March 2) on 2-for-3 hitting with a double, a home run and three runs scored.
