NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University women's track and field team seeks to improve on marks set last week in Houston, as they march through the indoor season beginning today at 11 a.m. in Baton Rouge with the Purple Tiger Classic at the Carl Maddox Field House on the campus of Louisiana State University.

The Green Wave participated in the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 12, placing fourth in the 16 team meet in which senior sprinter Gloria Asumnu won the 400-meter dash. Other top finishers for the Wave included junior Shaina Pelham (second in the 200m), redshirt sophomore Jasmine Momoh (seventh in the 60m, personal best time) and senior Shanon Beelendorf (third in the 800-meter run).

Sprinters participating for Wave include Asumnu and senior Taneekwa Ross in the 60m and sophomore Olivia Kizzee and redshirt sophomore Valencia Wilson in the 200m. The two 4x400-meter relay teams that will compete are comprised of (A) Pelham, Beelendorf, Wilson and junior Vanessa Kienast; and (B) freshman Aieshia Brooks, Kizzee, Momoh and senior Kyra Lobbins. Redshirt freshman Brooke Bruns, freshman Zandria DeBowles and Lobbins will run the 400m in a race against time.

Freshman Caitlin Hornbeck will try to tame the 800-meter run and the one mile run in a couple of races against time, while freshmen Rebecca Coady and Laurie Dalrymple and senior Aubrey Phillips will take on the mile run in the championship section - a race against other runners. Coady, Brooks, Kienast and Phillips will run the Distance Medley Relay in the section of races against time. Senior Keriann Langley will run the 3000 meter event in the evening.
