NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University women's track and field team seeks to open the main portion of its indoor schedule on the right note Saturday as it begins the 2008 indoor season at the Houston Indoor Opener at Yeoman Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Houston.
The Green Wave participated in the Arkansas State Kickoff Klassic on Dec.1, a non-scoring meet in which senior sprinter Gloria Asumnu qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 60-meter dash. Asumnu was an All-America selection in the 60 meters in 2007.
Sprinters participating for Wave include freshman Brree Carter, junior Jasmine Momoh and senior Andrea Rosemond in the 60m; sophomore Olivia Kizzee and junior Shaina Pelham in the 200m; and Asumnu in the 400m. Senior Shanon Beelendorf, junior Vanessa Kienast and freshman Aieshia Brooks will try to tame the 800-meter run, while freshman middle distance runners Rebecca Coady and Caitlin Hornbeck will take on the mile run. Senior Aubrey Phillips and freshman Laurie Dalrymple will run the 3,000 meters.
Freshman Peggy Keplinger will participate in the pole vault for Tulane, while Carter and fellow freshman Zandria DeBowles try their hand in the long jump. Debowles will also participate in the high jump. Junior transfer thrower Katarina Busljeta will launch the shot put.
