Track and Field Open Season at Louisiana Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Tulane Track and Field program opened up their 2010 outdoor track and field season at the Louisiana Classic hosted by Louisiana Lafayette at the Ragin' Cajuns Track. Tulane captured the 4x100m relay, the Javelin Throw and the Triple Jump on the women's side, while Brian Lozes posted a victory in his heat of the 1,500m run.


"Our athletes and our coaching staff have been really excited for the start of the outdoor season since the indoor season concluded at the Conference USA meet," said head coach Eric Peterson. "Our athletes have worked very hard since the indoor season closed and their dedication showed today with some solid results at the Louisiana Classic."


The relay squad of Kasey Rodgers, Olivia Kizzee, Tiffanie Smith and Jamie Riles teams up to win the 4x100 meter relay in 46.53 winning over Louisiana Lafayette by .06-seconds. In the field events, the Green Wave posted a pair of wins from Ana Ruzevic and Nicolette Taku. Ruzevic posted an individual win in the Javelin Throw with a throw of 44.80-meters and Taku took the triple jump with a leap of 12.32 meters.




The Olive and Blue got solid performances from a handful of other competitors as Rodgers posted a second place finish in the 100-meter dash, Kizzee was runner-up in the 200-meter dash with a showing of 24.56. In the 800-meter run, Candice St. Etienne placed second with a time of 2:17.67 and Johanna Gretschel took third in the 300-meter final with a showing of 10:45.69.


On the men's side of things, Lozes was the top finisher in his heat of the 1500-meter run in a career-best time of 4:03.81, besting his personal best by five seconds. Max Yanker placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.93-meters and Evan Nicoll was 14th in the pole vault with a vault of 3.66-meters.


The next meet for the program will be a tri-meet with South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette in Mobile on March 27.
