PONCHATOULA, La. - - The Tulane men's cross country teams place four its runners in the top, while the Green Wave women had three Top 5 finishers as both sqauds captured first place at the Southeastern Louiaiana Invitational Cross Country meet.
Tulane's Soloman Kandie won the three-mile men's race with a time of 14:18.87, while teammate Anthony Lagat was third with a time of 14:45.63. Peter Rotich finished the course in 14:57.78 for fourth place, while Meshack Muhupi finished fifth with a mark of 15:01.95.
Tulane claimed the men's title with a score of 23, while host SLU was second with 45 points. Nicholls State was third with 61 points, and UNO was fourth with 108 points.
Hanne Lyngstad won the women's race with a time of 10:27.42 over two miles. Fellow Green Wave stanout Theresa Maru was not far behind, taking second place with a 10:28.35 showing. Katrina Gemmell also picked up a Top 5 showing, placing fourth with a time of 10:51.54.
The Tulane women recorded 26 points to win the women's crown, while UNO was second with 33 points. SLU finished third in the team standings with 85 points, while Nicholls State and Belhaven rounded out the final five.
Other finishers for the Tulane men included Meyer Friedman, who finished 10th with a time of 15:35.98, and Adam Leskis, who turned in a time of 15:46.17 to finish 12. Ryan Gallaghen cleared the course in 16:07.17 to finish 16th.
Lyndie Galka finished ninth for the Tulane women with a time of 11:34.73, while Angela Milner finished 10th with a 11:37.25 showing. Carlyne Pradieu was 12th with a mark of 11:54.72, while Nikeola Balogun finished 15th with a time of 12:24.31.
