CHICAGO - Tulane women's cross country runner Katrina Gemmell was named Conference USA women's cross country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Gemmell, a sophomore from Palmerston North, New Zealand, topped a field of 50 in winning Saturday's LSU Invitational. She posted a two-mile time of 11:04.70 in leading the Green Wave to a second-place team finish. It was her second top-10 finish in two competitions this season.

For Gemmell, it is the first time she has been recognized as the C-USA Athlete of the Week. She earned 1999 Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year accolades.

Tulane will next be in action on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Popeye's Ragin' Cajun Invitational in Lafayette, La.
