Tulane's Aagaard Earns C-USA Runner of the Week Honors
Sept. 8, 2003 NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University junior Philip Aagaard made a successful return to the Green Wave by earning Conference USA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors after leading his team to a first-place finish at its own Tulane Invitational on Friday afternoon. Aagaard, a native of Linkoping, Sweden, covered the three-mile course in 15:49.35 to earn second-place among the 65 collegiate runners. Aagaard ran cross country and track and field for the Green Wave as a freshman in 2001, but transferred to Arkansas for his sophomore season. However, this summer he made the return to Tulane and is expected to be a key performer for the cross country program. "Having Philip back is going to make a great impact on our team," Tulane head coach Heather Van Norman said. "He is a team player and he had a good first meet and I think he will only get better." Tulane is back in action on Friday afternoon, running at the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m.
Directions to Friday's meet in Hattiesburg are available here.
