WACO, Texas - Sophomore Julia Whitrock placed 27th overall as the Tulane women's cross country team finished 15th of 21 teams at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship Saturday at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas. Whitrock posted a team of 22:09, an improvement of 40 seconds off her performance as a redshirt freshman last season at the 6K regional championships.

"We were led by Julia, who really ran well today," said Eric Peterson, director of cross country and track & field. "A year ago, she was 52nd. She really had an excellent race. She is establishing herself as a strong runner for us; a consistently strong runner. And the most important thing is to establish consistency and perform at a consistently high level. That's something we as a team need to keep working on and use as a source of motivation for improvement and development."

Following Whitrock was sophomore Annette Glaz, who turned in a time of 23:46 to place 85th. Junior Rebecca Coady traversed the course in 23:57 to place 89th. Freshman Maggie Gentry posted a mark of 24:20 to finish 100th, while sophomore Johanna Gretschel placed 121st with a time of 25:01.

The Green Wave totaled 414 points to place 15th, while C-USA foe SMU won the overall team title with a score of 43, topping host Baylor by 11 points. SMU junior Silje Fjortoft won the individual crown in a time of 20:29. The South Central Region consists of 34 cross country programs with the top nine of the regional championship advancing to the NCAA Championship.

"We'll now take a short break and resume our training and turn our focus towards the indoor track season," Peterson concluded. "All of our student-athletes are enthusiastic about the indoor season, as am I."
