HOUSTON, Texas - Tulane's cross country program traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Saturday (October 15) and came away with a pair of top-15 finishes at the Crimson Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Running Park. The men's squad grabbed a 13th place showing and the women's squad claimed at 14th place overall finish.

In the men's race, senior Brian Lozes was the pacesetter for the Green Wave with a 63rd place finish in the 158 person field. Lozes has been the team's top finisher in three straight meets now and covered the eight-kilometer course in 26:40.27. Freshman Mark Manion continued to show improvement on the season, finishing second on the squad in a personal best 27:29.83. The rookie placed 86th overall and chopped over two minutes off his previous career best at the 8K distance.

Max Miller (89th), Jordan Vance (111th) and Cody Gibbons (112th) rounded out the scoring runners for the Green Wave. The trio finished with times of 27:33.16, 28:28.98 and 28:29.82, respectively. Those finishes gave Tulane 400 points, which was good enough for a 13th place team finish out of 21 teams.

Also competing for Tulane was freshman Geoffrey Zelek in a time of 28:41.04, senior Mike Mainguy in 28:56.77 and junior Michael Villasin in 30:30.92.

 

 

Freshman Paige Callahan has led the team in all four of her career races and posted a 30th place showing among the field of 203 runners. The Annapolis, Md. native covered the five-kilometer course in 18:29.34 to pace four TU runners that finished with sub-20 minute times on the day.

Katherine Crabtree was the second Tulane runner to cross the finish line, finishing 48th with a time of 18:54.25. The scoring lineup saw a little bit of a shakeup this weekend, with Johanna Gretschel finishing third on the team, 70th in 19:17.94, and Emmi Aguillard coming in fourth for the Green Wave, 86th in 19:34.81. Jessica Dallager rounded out the team scoring with a 116th place showing in a time of 20:03.05. The Green Wave posted a 14th place showing out of 25 teams, finishing with 316 points.

Sophomores Callie Turlington and Tavie Abell were next to finish for TU, crossing the finish line in 20:04.33 and 20:51.21, respectively. Senior Cassie Campbell rounded out the competition for the Olive and Blue with a time of 22:48.49.

Tulane will now turn its attention to the postseason portion of their schedule and the Conference USA Championships on October 31. The championships will be hosted by Rice University in Houston, Texas.
