NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane athletic department has canceled Friday's Green Wave Invitational, which was to open the schedule for the Tulane men's and women's cross country teams.

The meet was to be the first event for the re-established men's cross country program, which has been on a three-year hiatus following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. But with the forecast for Tropical Storm Gustav showing potential inclement weather, Tulane has decided to close the University at noon on Friday. The University is scheduled to re-open Thursday.

Seniors Tim Cullen and Eric Sweeney were each set to run their first cross country meet for a Green Wave program they joined in 2005 as freshmen. But now will have to wait two weeks before the Wave's next event, the Memphis Twilight on September 13.

The Green Wave Invitational was to be the teams' only home event of the cross country season. No makeup date has been announced.
