New Orleans - Junior Rebecca Coady paced the Tulane women's cross country team to a sixth place finish with her fifth place showing in the women's 5k run, while the Green Wave men's team was 24th in the four-mile run as both cross country teams opened their respective seasons tonight at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic at the Mike Rose Complex in Memphis, Tenn.
In her first race of the year, Coady showed little rust as she clocked a time of 18:29.53 and was actually the third runner to cross the finish line who was competing in the team event. The top two finishers ran unattached.
Following Coady's lead was freshman Katherine Crabtree, who registered a time of 19:42.33 in her first collegiate outing for a 33rd place performance. Another newcomer, freshman Maggie Gentry, was stellar in her first race with a 36th place finish in a time of 19:48.52.
Emmi Aguillard was another freshman who turned in a solid outing with a 49th place finish after she clocked a time of 20:05.16. Sophomore Johanna Gretschel crossed the finish line in a time of 20:08.04 for 52nd place, while junior Caitlin Hornbeck was 78th overall with a time of 20:59.06. Sophomore Jessica Dallager was the final Wave runner to cross the finish line with a time of 21:12.71 for 87th place.
The Tulane men's squad, all sophomores, finished in the top four spots, including top performer Brian Lozes, who paced the Green Wave men with a 42nd place finish in 21:35.06, while Mike Mainguy registered a time of 23:14.55 for 117th place. Max Miller logged a time of 23:37.79 for 134th, while Jordon Holtzman was one spot behind Miller in 135th place with a time of 23:39.06. Kevin Mitchell crossed the finish line in a time of 26:55.95 for the 189th spot.
