NEW ORLEANS - Just seven days after running her first event in her first Olympic competition, former Tulane All-America performer Gloria Asumnu helped her Nigeria squad place fourth in the 4x100m relay with a season-best performance. The performance was the final of five runs for Asumnu and capped off of her XXX Olympiad in London.

After helping the team to an eighth place qualifying spot yesterday in the 4x100m relay, Asumnu again ran the second leg in the finals. Asumnu joined with Oludamola Osayomi, Endurance Abinuwa and Blessing Okagbare to run their second straight season best time of 42.64 in the finals. They finished behind the United State - who set a new world record - Jamaica and Ukraine, who each set new national records.

The addition of Abinuwa to the relay team made three-fourths of the team former Conference USA members. Asumnu (Tulane) joined Abinuwa and Okagbare (UTEP) as former members of the C-USA family.

Asumnu opened her first Olympic games by posting a season-best time in the 100 meter prelims to finish third in her heat and qualify for the semifinals. The former TU All-America performer clocked an 11.13 in the prelims and followed that with an 11.21 showing in the semifinals to officially finished 13th in the event.

On Monday, August 6, Asumnu ran in the prelims of the 200 meter dash, an event which she won the African Championship title in June, and ran 23.43 over the half lap. The Houston, Texas native finished 25th overall at the 200-meter distance and then turned her attention to the relay.

The former Green Wave sprinter is one of 32 current and former Conference USA student-athletes that will be competing at the 30th Olympiad. Asumnu along with Okagbare (UTEP) each competed for Nigeria and ran the 100 meter. They also teamed up with Abinuwa (UTEP) in the 4x100 meter relay.
