NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's basketball team and the Tulane men's Track & Field team were recognized by Conference USA with Sport Academic Awards on Wednesday. Each squad boasted the top team grade-point average in their sport in the conference.

The men's track & field program earned a 3.254 average GPA, with 13 of 17 student-athletes owning a mark of 3.0 or higher. The Green Wave finished eighth at the C-USA championship. The freshman-laden squad will return 13 student-athletes for next season, including an 11-athlete sophomore class which just completed its first year at Tulane.

The men's basketball team topped Conference USA with a 2.745 team GPA. Five of Tulane's 13 student-athletes posted GPAs over 2.9 for the year, with over half the team topping a 2.7 GPA. On the court, Tulane finished the season 14-17 overall, 7-9 and eighth in C-USA. Ten members from last year's squad will return in 2009-10.

The Sport Academic Award is given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the current academic year.
