June 6, 2012
NEW ORLEANS - For the third time in his career, Tulane track and field senior Mike Mainguy was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Track and Field squad. The distance runner from Brookline, Mass. competed in six of the team's meets and carried a 3.89 GPA in Tulane's Neuroscience program to earn the honor from the conference office.
In his career, Mainguy has been a part of six Conference USA All-Academic squads, earning the honor in cross country during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons, while earning the scholastic honor each of the past three seasons on the track. He was twice named the Tulane Scholar-Athlete of the Year - awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA - and has earned the Conference USA Commissioners Medal, awarded to student-athletes with a 3.75 cumulative GPA or higher. He was named to the Tulane 3.0 Club and C-USA Commissioners Honor Roll during each of his seasons on the Uptown campus.
Mainguy competed in the 3,000 and 5,000 meter events this season for the Green Wave and set a new personal best of 9:14.46 in the 3,000 meter event. He narrowly missed setting a career-mark in the 5,000 event when he ran 16:20.09 at the LSU Relays and missed the PR by less than one second.
