Kandie is First in the Steeplechase

EUGENE, Ore. - Junior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) recorded the top time in the preliminaries of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday at the University of Oregon.

An All-American in the event last year, Kandie recorded a time of 8:45.14, to finish first in the preliminary heats. He will run in the championship on Saturday at 8:45 p.m. (CST).

Sophomore Marie Ahlander (Arsta, Sweden), a triple jump All-American during the indoor season, looks to match her performance on the outdoor track Friday. She jumps at 7:45 p.m. (CST). Following that, Tulane's second javelin star, junior Catherine Betz (Metairie, La.), will make her first appearance at the National Championships, throwing the javelin at 8 p.m.

Senior Noel Comrie (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) will close out the NCAA Championships for the Wave. He competes in the triple jump at 6 p.m. Saturday.
