Lambert's 1,500 Highlights Cardinal Invitational Effort

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Tulane track and field distance runner Alison Lambert posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the women's 1,500-meter run late Friday night at the Cardinal Invitational.

Lambert, a senior from Walnut Creek, Calif., ran a personal-best time of 4:19.93 to finish fifth among 30 competitors. Lambert was the third-fastest collegian in the race. Her time provisionally qualified her for the 1999 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and was more than 6.5 seconds faster than her previous best this season.

Also competing for the Green Wave was senior Amos Kipyegon and junior Jacob Busienei. Kipyegon finished 12th in the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 3:43.97, while Busienei finished 21st in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:07.33.

Tulane was scheduled to compete in Saturday's Seminole Twilight meet in Tallahassee, Fla., before the 1999 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend.
