NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University sophomore Marie Ahlander (Arsta, Sweden) was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week for women's track the Conference announced Tuesday.
Ahlander captured the prestigious Championship of the Americas in the triple jump at the Penn Relays with a career-best jump of 42-09.50 on Friday. The jump marked her second Provisional Qualifying distance this season in that event. It is just three-quarters of an inch from setting the Tulane school record. In addition, her distance is the 13th best jump in the nation this year.
Ahlander becomes the fifth member of the Green Wave track team to earn Athlete of the Week honors this spring, she joins junior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya), senior Noel Comrie (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica), junior Nathan Junius (New Orleans, La.) and sophomore Nadja Petersen (Stockholm, Sweden).
An All-American during the indoor season, Ahlander was also named the Conference USA Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 14.
The Tulane track teams return to action on Sunday with individuals competing at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
