Track Sweeps C-USA Track Athlete of the Week Honors

April 26, 2001

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane University junior Nathan Junius (New Orleans, La.) and sophomore Nadja Petersen (Stockholm, Sweden) were named the Conference USA Athletes of the Week for men's and women's track, respectively, for last week.

Junius had his second NCAA automatic qualifying distance of the year in the javelin at the Mt. SAC Relays last Saturday. He bettered his own season-best by eight inches with a throw of 239-11, the third-best mark in the nation this year.

Petersen, meanwhile, ran the 400 Intermediate Hurdles for the first time this year and turned in an NCAA Automatic Qualifying time of 57.37 at the Mt. SAC Relays. That time is also a Tulane school record. The sophomore has now qualified provisionally in two events and automatically in one.

The Green wave is back in action this weekend at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
