Track Opens Competition at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Tulane track and field team received two outstanding performances as the squad opened competition at the 73rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Edrige Darling, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, got the Green Wave off on the right foot by qualifying for the finals in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Darling won heat No. 2 with a time of 51.41 seconds. His time was a season-best and the second-fastest time in school history. Overall, Darling's time ranked seventh in the field of 48 and qualified him for Saturday's final, which is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.

Hanne Lyngstad, a senior from Elverum, Norway, posted a season-best time of 9:46.35 in the 3,000 meters to earn runner-up honors in the field of 21. It was her first attempt at 3,000 meters this spring and was the third-fastest 3,000 meters in school history.

Lana Garner, a senior from San Diego, Calif., competed in the women's 400-meter hurdles, where she finished fourth in heat No. 7 and did not advance to the finals. Her time of 1:04.52 ranked 37th of 51 entrants.

The Tulane track and field team will be in action through Saturday at the 73rd running of the Texas Relays.
