SAN DIEGO - The Tulane track and field program will head west to open their 2012 outdoor campaign, competing at the Aztec Invitational on the campus of San Diego State University. The Olive and Blue will send 14 female student-athletes and six male competitors to the three-day event that will be held at the SDSU Sports Deck.

The men's squad will get their first test of the season on the outdoor oval when Garrett Myer takes to the lanes for competition in the decathlon. The senior will look to build upon his 5,180-point effort from last season's Conference USA Championships. Myer competed in two decathlon events as a sophomore and one as a junior and has improved his score each time. He currently ranks second in school history with his point total from last year's C-USA meet and is just 200 points shy of the schools top mark.

Also competing for the men's squad will be seniors Jared Firestone and Max Miller, junior Jon Frano and Max Yanker and sophomore Chris Arechiga. Firestone will run the 100 and 200 meter distances, while Miller will compete at the 1,500 and 5,000 meter clips. Frano scored at the Conference USA meet last season in the 400 meter and will compete in the quarter mile, along with running his first collegiate 800-meter over the weekend.

The outdoor season arrives for the women's squad just days after the NCAA Indoor National Meet, a meet that Estefany Cruz competed at in the triple jump. The rookie will take to the outdoor runway for the first time as a Green Wave and look to continue her progression. Cruz jumped an indoor-best 13.03 meters at the C-USA Championships and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors by qualifying for the indoor championships.

Senior Kasey Rodgers will compete for the first time in 2012, with the senior missing the indoor campaign due to injury, when she runs the 100 and 200 meter events at SDSU. Rodgers enjoyed her best outdoor season to date in 2011 and qualified for the NCAA East Regional. Last year, the Elk Grove, Calif. native set personal-best times in the 100 and 200 meter, covering the distances in 11.49 and 23.95, respectively.

Fellow senior Ana Ruzevic heads to the west coast looking to open the 2012 season in the same fashion that she did the 2011 slate. Ruzevic set the school record in the javelin with a toss of 51.37-meters during her first meet of 2011 and went on to earn First Team All-America honors with a fourth place showing at the NCAA Outdoor National Meet. The Split, Croatia native will just compete in the javelin over the weekend in San Diego.

Jamie Riles and Hilary Woods will look to carry their momentum into the outdoor season, with both participating in the 200 and 400 meter races. Riles enters the season ranked fourth on the all-time outdoor 400 meter list and Woods will be competing at the distance for just the fourth time in her career.

The trio of Zandria Debowles, Tiffanie Smith and Candice St. Etienne will pull double duty at the 400-meter distance, running the dash and hurdle events. DeBowles finished the 2011 season ranked 39th nationally in the 400 meter hurdles and her season-best time of 58.82 ranks third in school history. The redshirt-senior broke the 60-second mark in five of her eight meets, while St. Etienne also set a personal best last season and ranks eighth all-time at TU with a 61.31 personal record. Smith will be competing in the event for the first time.

Tiffany Kenney will open the competition for the Olive and Blue with her first career heptathlon and first for the Green Wave since 2010. The rookie will compete in the 100m hurdles, 200 meter, 800 meter, high jump, long jump, shot put and javelin.
