FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Tulane track and field student-athlete Cecilie Rise earned a ninth-place finish in the women's triple jump at the 2000 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Arkansas.

Rise, a junior from Sandane, Norway, recorded a leap of 43-feet, one-half inch (13.12m) to finish ninth in the field of 17. Rise's effort equaled a season-best performance. It was the second consecutive year that Rise has qualified for NCAA Championship competition. Keisha Spencer of Louisiana State won the event with a leap of 14.03 meters.

Freshman Theresa Maru also competed for Tulane in the women's mile run. Maru, a native of Kipkarren River, Kenya, ran a time of 4:46.54 in the preliminaries, but did not advance to the finals.

The Tulane track and field team opens outdoor competition on Sat., March 18, at the Southern Miss Relays in Hattiesburg, Miss.
