FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Seven members of the Green Wave indoor track program will represent Tulane University at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championships beginning today at the University of Arkansas.
Sophomore Marie Ahlander (Stockholm, Sweden) is the No. 2 seed in the triple jump. Her 13.23 qualifying jump was topped by just one triple-jumper this season. The preliminary and final rounds of the triple jump will begin at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
Sophomore Nadja Petersen (Stockholm, Sweden) also has an impressive seeding, she is fifth in the 400 meters. The preliminary heats of the 400 Championship will begin at 5:10 p.m. today (Friday). The finals are at 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
Petersen will also participate in the 4x400 relay championship. She is joined on the Tulane squad by seniors Angela Milner (Modesto, Calif.) and Nikelola Balogun (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Asha James (Pickering, Ontario). That relay will be held at 7:55 p.m. Saturday.
On the men's side, freshman Carl White (Opelousas, La.) is the 11th seed in the triple jump. His qualifying leap of 16.10 meters was the second-best triple jump by a freshman this season. The prelims and finals of the men's triple jump will begin at 4:10 p.m. Saturday.
Junior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya), who earned All-America honors last year in outdoor track, will compete in the mile championship this season. Kandie will run in the preliminary heat on Friday at 6:35 p.m., hoping to qualify for Saturday's final at 6:15 p.m.
