BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The indoor track and field season will come full circle on Saturday (Feb. 25) when the Tulane track and field program arrives at the Birmingham CrossPlex for the opening day of the 2012 Conference USA Indoor Championships. The Green Wave opened their season at the newly opened facility in Birmingham and will now send 17 student-athletes to compete on the championships stage in the same venue.

There are a handful of Green Wave competitors that enter the weekend as true championship contenders in their respective events, but only Estefany Cruz enters as the top seed in her respective event. The redshirt-freshman jumped a C-USA best 12.68-meters in the triple jump two weeks ago at the Tyson Invitational. A native of Guatemala, Cruz enters the weekend ranked 19th nationally in the event, but will have to contend with Tori Bowie of Southern Miss and Jasia Richardson from Marshall, the second and third place finishers in the event last season.

Jamie Riles will take to the oval in a pair of events at the C-USA Championships over the weekend, entering ranked sixth in the 200 and 400 meter events. The junior owns the team's top three times at the 200-meter distance and ran a season-best 24.22at the Tyson Invitational just two weeks ago. In the 400, Riles would like to add an indoor title to the outdoor crown she captured in 2010 and enters with a season-best time of 55.77. It marks the fourth time in her career that she ran a sub 56-second quarter mile.

A Tulane participant has scored in the pentathlon since the 2005 season, but rookie Tiffany Kenney enters the weekend with the fourth best mark in the event this season. The rookie competed in the pentathlon - which includes the 60 meter hurdles, 800 meter, long jump, high jump and shot put - at the Husker Invitational in early February and compiled a score of 3,340 points, which ranks second on Tulane's all-time indoor charts.

Six other student-athletes enter the weekend ranked among the top-ten in their respective events. Freshman Jessica Knierim enters ranked sixth in the pole vault (3.54m), Candice St. Etienne is eighth in the 800 meter (2:14.96), while Raquelle Collins (long jump, 5.76m) and Briana Santiago (triple jump, 11.85m) each rank ninth in their events. Zandria Debowles and Melanie Mainor both enter the high jump tied for tenth among their C-USA counterparts.
