BATON ROUGE, La. - Led by the efforts of triple jumper Cecilie Rise, the Tulane track and field team posted five event winners Friday night at the LSU Twilight Invitational.
Rise, a junior from Sandane, Norway, won the women's triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 11 ½ inches (12.79 meters). The effort topped a field of seven by more than three feet and was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Also posting wins for the Green Wave women were Lana Garner and Theresa Maru. Garner topped a field of 14 in winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 2:11.09. Maru captured the mile run with a time of 4:51.61. Maru's time was a Tulane season best at this distance.
On the men's side, senior Edrige Darling earned a victory in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.52 seconds. His time was a personal and team best this season. Joining Darling with a victorious effort was Peter Rotich, who won the mile run with a time of 4:17.91.
Also of note, Tulane sprinters Jamal Jones and Delando Davis each posted season-best time in their respective events. Jones finished third in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 6.80 seconds, while Davis finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.99 seconds.
The Tulane track and field team will next be in action on Feb. 25-26 at the 2000 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Chicago, Ill.
