NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's track and field program will take part in the LSU Twilight meet Friday in Baton Rouge, La. - just one week before the Conference USA Championships.
The Greenies will participate in eight events at the Maddox Field House on LSU's campus. While there, they will look to better their marks before heading into the biggest meet of the season in Birmingham, Ala.
"We are really using this meet as an opportunity to tune up before we head into the conference meet," said Tulane director of track and field Eric Peterson. "We want to use this meet as a chance to sharpen a lot of our kids who haven't had the opportunity to travel outside of the region for meets."
The Green Wave will get the day started by taking part in three jumps - the high jump, pole vault and long jump. Sophomore Tiffany Kenney and freshman Dana Ohlson will compete in the high jump, where they will attempt to eclipse their previous season highs of 1.58 meters (5-2.25) and 1.45 meters (4-9). They will both look to join junior Melanie Mainor near the top of the conference. Mainor currently sits tied for third with a jump of 1.73 meters (5-8).
Freshmen Jill Doyle and Haley Miller, sophomore Jessica Knierim and junior Joanna Lapucha will all compete in the pole vault. Lapucha's season best of 3.80 meters (12-5.50) and Knierim's best of 3.75 meters (12-3.50) are currently the fifth and sixth best jumps in Conference USA on the season. Their teammate, sophomore Merritt Van Meter, sits atop the leaderboard with a jump of 4.23 meters (13-10.50).
Tulane's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Hilary Woods, Tiffanie Smith, Jessica Adamson and Kayla Quincy currently sit at sixth place in the Conference USA standings. This weekend, Quincy and Smith will team up with Jerica Banks and Michelle Kreutzberg to attempt to shave off some time from the season best 3:48.44. Kelci Lyons, Charlotte Manogue, Amanda Savage and Adiyah Crute will also join forces in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
"We are hoping to improve our time in the 4 x 400 meter relay," added Peterson.
Junior Aimee Arceneaux will compete for the first time this season when she runs in the 3,000 meter run.
