CHICAGO - With a pair of outstanding performances, the Tulane track and field program swept the Conference USA men's and women's indoor track Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Anthony Lagat, a freshman from Nairobi, Kenya, topped the six-man 5,000-meter field at the LSU Invitational with a time of 15:44.73. The mark was a season-best for Lagat. It is the first time Lagat has been so honored by the league office.

Theresa Maru, a freshman from Kipkarren River, Kenya, won the 3,000-meter event at the LSU Invitational with a Conference USA-best time of 9:56.12. It was Maru's first collegiate race at 3,000 meters. She earned C-USA Athlete-of-the-Week honors for the first time in her career.

By sweeping this week's Athlete-of-the-Week honors, Tulane track and field team members have won the award in each of the weeks in which it has competed. In the last five years, 21 Green Wave track and field student-athletes have earned C-USA Athlete-of-the-Week accolades.
