NEW ORLEANS - With the weather outside acting like it is time for outdoor track and field, the Tulane track and field program boarded a plane to head West for the Cherry and Silver Invitational, hosted by New Mexico. The two-day meet will being in the evening on Friday, January 20 and conclude with a full schedule of events on Saturday, January 21.

Tulane will travel 14 student-athletes to the Land of Enchantment to compete on the 200-meter oval inside the Albuquerque Convention Center. Nine competitors will participate in their respective events on Friday evening, while the majority of the Tulane travel roster will vie for titles on Saturday.

The Friday evening session will feature all three Green Wave long jumpers, 200 meter runners and high jumpers, with events starting at 5:00, 7:30 and 8:30, respectively. Zandria Debowles will look to improve upon her early season performances in the high jump on Friday, entering with the fourth best height in Conference USA this season, entering the event with a season-best mark of 1.60-meters.

In the 200 meter, Jamie Riles will look to continue her solid start to the 2012 indoor campaign. The junior holds the team's top marks in both the 200 and 400 meter dash this season and ran the third fastest 200 of her career at the Birmingham Icebreaker in December. In that meet, Riles broke the tape in 24.87 to place third overall in the event. In the 400-meter, Riles enters the weekend with the second fastest time in Conference USA and is one of four Green Wave participants entered in the event. The junior ran 56.63-seconds last weekend at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener and is the sixth fastest time in her career at that distance. Jerica Banks, Michelle Kreutzberg and Hilary Woods will also compete in the event on Saturday.

The trio of Raquelle Collins, Tiffany Kenney and Danna Wasserman will all take to the runway on Friday as a part of the long jump field. Collins ranks 12th among her Conference USA constituents with a season-best leap of 5.58-meters, which is her second best career performance behind her PR of 5.72-meters at the 2011 C-USA Championships.

The field events kick off Saturday's schedule, with student-athletes competing in the shot put, triple jump and pole vault. Estefany Cruz currently ranks 16th nationally and second in Conference USA in the triple jump after a leap of 12.45-meters last weekend in Birmingham. The redshirt-freshman is just 0.02-meters behind the conference leader, Jacquelyn Gilchrist of UCF, and has her eye on the NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark of 13.30-meters. Sophomore Briana Santiago currently sits in seventh on the C-USA charts in the event and will jump in the opening flight of the competition.

Senior Kasey Rodgers will compete in only the 60 meter event over the weekend, entering ranked 13th among her conference counterparts. Rodgers, who was named the Tulane Student-Athlete of the Week for her last weekend at the Crimson Indoor Opener, competed at her first meet in over nine months when she took to the lanes in Birmingham, Ala.
