CHICAGO — Tulane women’s track and field team member Cecilie Rise earned Conference USA Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Thursday.
Rise, a junior from Sandane, Norway, won the triple jump and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark last Saturday at the New York Sports Museum Collegiate Armory Invitational. Her mark of 41-6 ½ (12.66 meters) won the event by a foot and a half and established a new meet record.
Rise also finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 18-4 ¼ (5.59 meters). It was the first competition of the year for Rise and the Green Wave.
It is the first time in her career that Rise has earned Conference USA Athlete of the Week honors. In the last five years, 19 Tulane track and field student-athletes have earned C-USA Athlete of the Week honors.
The Tulane track and field team will next be in action on Jan. 29-30 at the Terrier Classic
in Boston, Mass.
